Once 12 a.m. hit on Thursday, Nov. 15, select H&M stores around the globe were flooded with celebrities, fashion bloggers and faithful customers. Why? Simply for one man: Maison Martin Margiela (MMM). After much anticipation, the moment we – the fashionheads – have been waiting for was finally here. Margiela launched a private collection with H&M, one of the most affordable fashion retail stores in the U.S. With over 100 exclusive pieces to offer, MMM is what we’d like to call the reason for the season.

The brilliant Belgian designer attended Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts, one of the oldest art academies in Belgium where the legendary artist, Vincent Van Gogh briefly studied. Within only a few years, he became a staple in the fashion industry. He worked with the high-end French labels, Jean Paul Gaultier and Hermès. Soon, he created his own brand. His abstract trademark consisted of a piece of cloth with the numbers labeled from 0-23. While refusing to take pictures and remaining backstage after his shows, his mysterious and low-profile persona quickly attracted A-list celebrities including rapper, Kanye West, and Sex and the City star, Sarah Jessica Parker.

Now that the MMM for H&M collection has been launched, it is considered to be more affordable and extremely individualized. An H&M insider says, “I think with any guest collaborations that are done, it brings awareness to audiences that may not know about the fashion and quality H&M has to offer at a great price year round. Margiela for H&M has attracted a lot more celebrity attention as well! This will help move H&M to the top of minds & shopping lists when shopping on Black Friday for great fashionable buys!” After traveling to Sweden and Paris, she continues, “The European market reactions have been phenomenal! I love the plexiglass heeled red shoes and the backless leather dress!” When asked what future collaborations she hopes to encounter with H&M, she mentioned, “Maybe Emilio Pucci, Herve Leger or similar to the Jimmy Choo colab, L.A.M.B!

The hashtag, #MargielawithHM has received over 5,000 instagram photographed posts. Celebrity stylists and fashion lovers everywhere have been contributing to the #MargielawithHM trend on Twitter. With less than 10 hours of MMM’s linking forces with H&M, it’s safe to say this has been a complete success.
