Luke Combs’ Beer Never Broke My Heart Tour: Expectations Exceeded
Luke Combs is one of the rising stars of country music. He won New Artist of the Year at the CMAs, and has been nominated for almost a dozen other awards, including a Grammy, in the past year. Combs just embarked on his first headlining tour, the Beer Never Broke My Heart Tour. The tour is named after one of his multiple unreleased songs.
On Thursday, Feb. 21, in Hershey, Combs didn’t disappoint. He played most of the songs from his debut album “This One’s For You,” many more of his own songs, and covers of others. He touched the crowd with his newest (almost) No. 1 single, “Beautiful Crazy,” which is a tribute to his fiancée Nicole Hocking, then in the next breath told the story of his disappointment with Nashville by singing his angry plea, “Can I Get an Outlaw.”
Combs also played three unreleased songs that only his die-hard fans, The Bootleggers, are aware of – “Reasons,” “Dear Today,” and the namesake of the tour, “Beer Never Broke My Heart.”
One of the coolest parts of the night was how Combs introduced his band. The band started out by playing Hank Williams Jr.’s “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight,” highlighting the drummer and pianist. They then segued into Brooks & Dunn’s “Rock My World (Little Country Girl)” to highlight the rhythm and steel guitars, finishing with an incredible vocal solo of Eagles’ “Desperado” by his acoustic guitarist/backup vocalist.
Combs was the headliner, but he wasn’t the only entertainment at the show. Jameson Rodgers started out the night with a few songs, including “Missing One,” “ Girls That Smoke,” and the song he wrote for Florida Georgia Line, “Talk You Out of It.”
Lanco was up next, pumping up the crowd with “Long Live Tonight” and “Born to Love You.” On their second-to-last song of the set, lead singer, Brandon Lancaster jumped into the crowd with a drum and really riled up the arena.
To top it off, between each band Dee Jay Silver pumped up the crowd with dozens of well known songs and remixes.
It’s no wonder the tour was sold out after one week of ticket sales…Luke Combs knows how to party. He and the band had shotgunned a few beers by the time the show was over, and Combs wasn’t on stage without a red Solo cup the entire time.
There were drinking songs, love songs, and of course, Combs sang about how “I don’t have to see my ex-future mother-in-law anymore,” the best part of any breakup.
