King James the IV
After another stellar season, LeBron James of the Miami Heat, has been named the NBA’s 2012-2013 Most Valuable Player. This makes it four MVP awards throughout his career and could be well on his way to another appearance in the NBA Finals. James, 28, has become the youngest player to win four MVP awards. James has received 120 out of the 121 first place votes from the league media members and analysts. The lone vote that did not go to James went instead to New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony.
“LeBron gets it, I take my hat off to him, he deserves it,” said Anthony. “They had a helluva year, to win 27 straight games, a hell of an achievement.”
“It’s probably a writer out of New York that didn’t give me the vote,” James said during Sunday’s award ceremony at American Airlines Arena. “I know the history between the Heat and the Knicks. So I get it.”
After winning his fourth award, he now joins the ranks of Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain, as the only players to ever win four MVP awards in NBA history.
James and Russell are the only players in NBA history to win the award four times in five seasons.
James is coming off of the most efficient season of his career after scoring nearly 27 points per game. He also averaged a career high in assists and rebounding and looks to carry that momentum into the post season.
After beating the Milwaukee Bucks in four games and the Chicago Bulls in five the Heat see themselves in the Easter conference finals vs. the Pacers. The Heat and Pacers have a history of bad blood and it may continue with a chance to make it to the NBA Finals. The Pacers won the regular season series 2-1. Frank Vogel, head coach of the Indian Pacers said “Miami is just another team in our way to the finals.” James took no time in firing back the head coach stating “we aren’t just any other team, we are a very good team.” This has the making of being a very good series given all that is at stake.
