Kendall Jenner has had an amazing year. She has walked for high fashion designers in numerous fashion weeks and appeared in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show as a new angel. Jenner also has a deal with Estée Lauder; she is not only the featured model, but has an online-only, limited-edition Kendall Jenner Shade of Pure Color Envy Matte Sculpting Lipstick, along with the various promotions she does for the company as their brand ambassador. Not to mention her sporadic appearances as a host or at charity events; all of which keep her incredibly busy. But is she too busy?
Jenner reported on her website in an article entitled “Not Quite Resolutions, But…” that she’s not very interested in New Year’s Resolutions, but is planning on spending more time at home and allowing for free time: “I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions. I don’t write a list down or anything, it’s definitely more of an in-my-head kind of thing.” Not setting a New Year’s Resolution certainly isn’t news worthy, but her reason for creating her not-so-resolutions certainly is.
As many media outlets have revealed, Jenner was hospitalized for exhaustion. The star wrote, “I just got so tired from work and life and everything that it freaked me out at the end of this year,” she said. “I actually had to go to the hospital because I was so exhausted.” Jenner added, “It was definitely a wakeup call that I need to take better care of myself.”
Not only did Jenner keep her hospitalization a secret, but the media that covered the issue really didn’t dive deeply into the seriousness of her admission. Instead, it seems media was more interested in writing another article about her dating life, career, or fashion. Isn’t there something wrong with this picture? She was hospitalized for a serious issue that no one is talking about.
According to The National Institutes of Health, USA, approximately one in every five
Americans claims to have fatigue that is severe enough to interfere with daily normal life. Exhaustion and fatigue are major issues our country is facing. One of our major celebrities admitted to suffering from the condition, yet where’s the outcry? Where are the people wondering about the condition?
Fatigue is something that can affect people at any age and leads to numerous, serious health issues. According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, “The damage from sleep deficiency can occur in an instant (such as a car crash), or it can harm you over time,” it adds, “…sleep is involved in healing and repair of your heart and blood vessels. Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke…It also can affect how well you think, react, work, learn, and get along with others.”
It seems that people, not just the media, have turned a blind eye to this issue and that’s a real shame. Sleep and relaxation have been scientifically proven to be beneficial to a person’s health. In the case of Kendall Jenner, the star says she understands that she needs to take better care of herself; she plans to do so by spending more time at home and leaving herself free time for possible adventures.
Sleep seems like such a boring subject and, therefore, doesn’t get a lot of attention. After all, everyone knows what it is and does it on a regular basis. Unfortunately, the benefits of sleep are so buried and hidden that approximately 63.78 million Americans suffer because they don’t get enough. Maybe our New Year’s resolutions need to focus less on calorie counting and more on hours of sleep.
