Johnny Depp is suing former spouse Amber Heard for defamation. The lawsuit came about after Heard contributed to an op-ed piece about the physical abuse she suffered written in the Washington Post back in 2018.

Depp is looking for $50 million in damages, claiming that Heard lied about the domestic abuse charges she filed back in May of 2016. They settled the case out of court which granted Heard $7 million. They also signed documents that they would not discuss their relationship or the dispute in public.

Depp claims that the case was an elaborate “hoax” and that Heard used the false accusations to further her career in light of the #MeToo movement.

In addition to suing Heard for false accusations, Depp is ironically suing for abuse. He has supplied the court with 87 videos of evidence against Heard. He claims she has punched him in the face, and he has produced photographs to prove physical damage.

Depp also cited an incident in which Heard threw a bottle of vodka at him which shattered and lacerated his finger. The injury broke bones in his finger and required surgery.

Depp claims that her allegations of abuse have been refuted by two separate police officers and various other parties.
