Injuries plague NFL stars all through Week 2

The 2020 NFL season has been out to a rough start for numerous teams, whose pro bowl players will be out for weeks to come, or for some, the rest of the season.

The list of players who suffered a partial season/season-ending injury yesterday is too long for comfort.

San Francisco 49ers star DE Nick Bosa suffered a torn ACL early in their Week 2 game against the New York Jets. Bosa made a large impact during his rookie season with the 49ers racking up nine sacks, one interception, and 53 tackles including assisted ones. Bosa has been tagged as irreplaceable by many around the league. After seeing the noise in his rookie year stated before, that statement is not so hard to believe.

The 49ers took another blow on defense when Solomon Thomas suffered what is assumed to be an ACL tear. Thomas was drafted third overall by the 49ers in the 2017 NFL draft. Thomas has achieved six career sacks with 95 tackles which include assisted.

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley suffered an ACL tear during the Giants Week two game versus the Chicago Bears. Saquon had two tremendous first seasons with stats that include the following: Barkley has a career 2344 rushing yards averaging 4.8 per carry. His career long run is 78 yards. Saquon has also produced 17 TDs while in the NFL while also having zero fumbles.

Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain after exiting Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers. CMC is expected to miss a few weeks with this sprain, and will not be active for the Panthers next game against the Arizona Cardinals. High ankle sprains may not be as serious as torn ligaments or broken bones, but the lasting effects can be just as detrimental. Former Patriots Mohamed Sanu dealt with a high ankle sprain for the tail end of last season, and was not able to make the Patriots 53-man roster for the current season. Only time will tell if CMC will be able to play at his high ability involving strength, speed, and his well-known agility and elusiveness.

The 49ers end up on the list again with starting QB Jimmy Garappolo having a high ankle sprain. Jimmy is expected to miss numerous upcoming weeks and will be replaced by backup QB Nick Mullens. Garappolo has a history of injuries that includes a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder and a torn Achilles tendon during his first year as a 49er.

Denver Broncos rookie QB Drew Lock suffered a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder and is expected to miss 2-6 weeks. The Broncos have signed veteran QB Blake Bortles to fill in for the rookie’s absence.

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack will be missing the remainder of the 2020 NFL season with a torn Achilles tendon which occurred during Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mack made noise in last year’s season with 1,091 rushing yards on 247 attempts, while averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Mack has scored 20 Touchdowns in his 3 years with the Colts. There is no doubt that his absence may have an effect on the Colt’s upcoming season.

Week 2 of the NFL season ended many seasons and cost many weeks for the league’s players. With next Sunday just around the corner, fans and players alike are hoping for a better outcome than what occurred this Sunday.
