Huskies Defeat Kutztown in Opening Round of PSAC Tournament

Bloomsburg, Pa—After failing to defeat the Kutztown University Golden Bears during the regular season, the Bloomsburg men’s basketball team finally got it right, defeating them by a score of 82-71 at the Nelson Field House. The win marked the first playoff victory for the Huskies since 2002.

Led by Dontahe Jordan (R-Sr. G/F), Bloomsburg built a 34-25 halftime lead despite shooting only 36 percent from the field. Kutztown tied the game several times in the second half, but the Huskies went on a 9-0 to extend their lead to 67-56, and Kutztown never got within seven points for the rest of the game. Jordan finished the game with 21 points and 12 rebounds, his ninth double-double of the season.

Lorenzo Christmas (R-Sr. G) scored a game-high 22 points, including four 3-pointers, and also grabbed five rebounds. Jon Riles (Jr. G) chipped in 12 points and six rebounds, as Bloomsburg outrebounded Kutztown 47-31.

The Husky defense also forced 21 Golden Bear turnovers, converting them into 23 points on the offensive end. The contest featured 51 total fouls between the teams, and a total of 65 foul shots were taken. Bloomsburg had the edge however, shooting 45 of those 60 foul shots, making 34 of them.

With his 21 points, Jordan moved into 11th in school history for points scored with 1,353. He is one point behind 10th place. Christmas also moved up on the scoring list, now sitting 13th with 1,291 career points.

The Huskies will travel to play at West Chester in the quarterfinals of the PSAC Tournament. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, Mar. 4 at a time to be determined.
