Hooping for a Cure: Husky Basketball Supports Breast Cancer Awarness
The Husky Basketball teams raised awareness for breast cancer during the match-ups against West Chester University on Saturday
Players, coaches, and fans alike sported their pink on Saturday afternoon in support of the Huskies Basketball “Hooping for a Cure.” Players wore pink socks, ribbons, pre-wrap and shoe laces in support of breast cancer awareness. The fundraising effort collected money on behalf of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and their program Play 4Kay.
The Husky ladies kicked off the afternoon with a one o’clock tip taking on division rivals West Chester University. The Huskies entered halftime with just a two-point lead, but dominated in the second half behind a standout performance by Dana Wieller. Wieller finished the game with 32 points, shooting an unbelievable 53 percent (8-15) from three. With 19 and 17 points from Kayla Oxenrider, and Kelsey Gallagher respectively, the Huskies finished the game with an 84-76 victory upping their record to 20-4 on the season.
The men’s team followed up that performance with an exciting game of their own against West Chester at three o’clock. The Huskies rushed out to an early nine point lead after back to back to back threes to open the game. The men entered half with a four point lead but were overcome by the West Chester Rams in the second half. The Rams found crucial success from the three-point line shooting 9-17 for the game. Although the Huskies kept it close, the game ended in a 74-71 loss bringing the men to a 16-7 record overall. Dontahe Jordan and Ed Hall led the Huskies with 16 points each.
The Huskies next home games will be on February 22nd at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. against East Stroudsburg University.
