New England Patriot’s tight end Aaron Hernandez began his trial on Thursday Jan. 29 with charges of murder against him.

According to WHDH, a Boston affiliate of NBC, Hernandez is being charged with the killing of a semipro football player named Odin Lloyd who was just 27 years old when Hernandez allegedly shot him to death. Prosecutors have spoken and said that Hernandez’s DNA was found on shell casings from a gun as well as likeness being caught on surveillance cameras. The evidence is stacked against his favor.

Back in 2013, Hernandez had a $40 million contract with the Patriots until he was cut by the team after he was arrested. The Patriots more recently won Super Bowl XLIX (49) on Sunday night as Hernandez was going through the opening process of his trial.

Time will tell whether Hernandez is found guilty or not but what he did could get him life in prison.
