Happy 25th Anniversary Fresh Prince of Bel Air
In West Philadelphia, born and raised, on the playground is where I spent most of my days! Chillin’ out…. Well 90’s babies should definitely know the rest! It’s Flashback Friday and we are still celebrating the Fresh Prince of Bel Air 25th Anniversary marked on Sept. 10. Since the debut of one of America’s favorite hip hop cultured sitcoms, we will never forget the many laughs, tears, and life lessons taken from a show filled with so much love and character.
Now this is the story all about how… For those who don’t know, or are not too familiar with the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, a young Philadelphia man (Will Smith) had “gotten into one little fight, so his mom got scared, and she said you’re moving in with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air.” Even if you’ve never watched the show, you know the catchy theme song for sure, one of the many pieces of the show that have stuck on to viewers for the past 25 years. The theme song isn’t the only thing from the show that holds a place in our hearts, besides the dancing, jokes, and togetherness, as well as the bond between the characters you feel on screen just by watching the show. There’s that one episode involving Will’s father that left both Uncle Phil and Will sharing a very strong embrace at the end of the episode, that left Will Smith in tears.
A lot has changed since the premiere of the Fresh Prince. All of our characters have moved on to star in other films and television shows, and Alfonso actually took the time in participating in Dancing with the Stars. However, we cannot overlook one of television’s most heartbreaking moments, when America had to say farewell to Uncle Phil better known as James Avery on December 31, 2013.
