Gina’s Scoops: A taste of State College in Bloomsburg

As delicious as Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream is, Bloomsburg students and residents may not want to drive over an hour just for a sweet treat. Thanks to Gina’s Scoops, they no longer have to.

While Penn State is known for a variety of things, from a prestigious football program to the annual THON Marathon, their tastiest claim to fame is the ice cream made directly at the campus creamery.
Gina’s Scoops opened in April, bringing State College’s famous flavors right to downtown Bloomsburg. Since the shop has only been open for about six months, and half of that time was over the summer, many Bloomsburg students may not be aware of the shop.
The shop is owned by Gina and her husband Rick. Although Rick is not originally from State College, his son is currently a sophomore at Penn State. The couple want Bloomsburg students and town residents to experience Penn State’s historic ice cream without the long drive.
Their ice cream is shipped directly from the State College creamery itself. There is a variety of flavors that rotate weekly and even daily. The special flavors of the week, as well as the standard flavors, are identical to the ones that the Penn State creamery offers.
Here’s just a small sample of the flavors offered at Gina’s Scoops:
Gina’s Scoops is located inside the Tiffany’s Downtown restaurant at 208 East St. in order to be open all winter long, whereas a standalone ice cream shop usually is not.
Also, many people may want to eat dinner first, and then ice cream.
Rick says, “having our ice cream shop inside Tiffany’s Downtown helps complement both businesses.”
The hours of Gina’s Scoops are the same as Tiffany’s Downtown.

Being only a short walk from campus and centrally located in town, Gina’s Scoops is a wonderful way for all the ice cream lovers in Bloomsburg to fulfill their sweet tooth and support local businesses.
