Friday Night Faux: ESPN Televises Fake High School Football Team
Over the weekend ESPN aired a seemingly normal high school football game between Bishop Sycamore and IMG academy, until the game turned ugly.
Then the commentators started to question how Bishop Sycamore got matched up with IMG, one of the top schools in the country. Bishop Sycamore lost 58-0. And they played a game on Friday night as well, which is almost unheard of for any level of football.
“From what we’ve seen so far, this is not a fair fight,” said announcer Aaron Schroff. “And there’s got to be a point where you’re worried about health and safety.”
He also noted that he and his team were unable to verify the legitimacy of claims that Bishop Sycamore players had received any D1 scholarships.
That’s because “Bishop Sycamore” may not be a real high school at all.
They claim to be a charter school, but when authorities investigated the address listed on documentation, they only found indoor sports facilities and no classrooms.
Many of the players on the roster are listed as playing for other high schools on Twitter. And some are suspected to be junior college athletes.
As of Wednesday, four schools are cancelling their future games against Bishop Sycamore, including a powerhouse team from D.C. and a team from Pennsylvania.
Gov. Mike Dewine of Ohio has announced they will do further investigation.
