Flyers Nab Second Overall Pick in 2017 NHL Entry Draft
Saturday night, the Philadelphia Flyers secured the second overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft after winning one of the top three spots in the draft lottery.

According to the team’s website, the Flyers had just a 2.4 percent chance of nabbing the pick. The last time the team had the No. 2 pick, they selected James van Riemsdyk who is now a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
With the NHL’s current draft projections, it looks like the Flyers will land centerman Nico Hischier. Per NHL.com’s reports, Hischier finished as the top scoring rookie in the QMJHL this season with 86 points in just 57 games as part of the Halifax Mooseheads. He also compares his style of play to that of former NHL-er Pavel Datsyuk.
So, barring any trades or surprises, it seems that the Flyers will have themselves a high-caliber prospect in Hischier.
With such a high pick in the draft, Philadelphia holds lots of power. Only time will tell what they do with it on June 23 when the 2017 NHL Entry Draft makes its way to United Center in Chicago.
