On Saturday, March 8, the Philadelphia Flyers took on the Toronto Maple Leafs in front of a crowd of 19,583 spectators at the Air Canada Centre. Philadelphia was looking to win their fourth game in a row.
The Maple Leafs took a 2-0 lead within the first four minutes of the game on goals by Jake Gardiner and Nazem Kadri. The Flyers could not find the net until the later stages of the second period when ageless wonder Kimmo Timonen scored his third of the season to cut the Toronto lead in half.
Timonen scored his second goal in the third period to tie the game, but Toronto retook the lead when Mason Raymond scored his 18th goal of the year to make the score 3-2. Just under four minutes later, Braydon Coburn tied the game for the Flyers and the game was sent into overtime.
In sudden death, Philadelphia could not record a single shot on goal. On Toronto’s only shot in overtime, Joffrey Lupul scored the game winning goal for the Maple Leafs just 2:21 seconds into the extra twenty minutes. Toronto won, 4-3.
Flyers goalie Steve Mason made 32 saves on 36 shots while Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier made 28 saves on 31 shots.
