First Suicide Squad Trailer Released

Trailers. One of the most aggravating aspects of movies that are currently being produced. Most are long and drawn out, highlight the funniest bits of the flick, and give so much away that even seeing the film seems pointless. Due to this fact many people, including myself, have taken to watching only the first half of a trailer, which is just enough to give an idea of the movie’s tone without spoiling any of the excitement. Much to my delight, and the majority of the internet, this was certainly not the case for Suicide Squad. The trailer was set to the chaotic and brilliant track “Bohemian Rhapsody” and succeeded in captivating all who watched. I was unable to tear my eyes from the screen as jokes hit the perfect key and chaos ensued.
Premiering this August, Suicide Squad focuses on a group of insane, strangely loveable characters from the DC Comic Universe. Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Killer Croc, Enchantress, Amanda Waller, and Captain Boomerang leap from the comic book pages for the characters’ live-action debut. The Joker also plays a large part in the movie, but his side and role are still unclear. The team of criminals are propositioned by government official, Amanda Waller, to partake in a secret mission that will likely get them killed and are therefore dubbed the Suicide Squad.
The trailer features a large array of snippets from the upcoming movie that seem to indicate that the characters’ origin stories will be mentioned. Not only would the fans be thrilled to see the origins features come to life in flashbacks, but it would also make for a fantastic way to introduce the characters and highlight the uniqueness that they each possess.
The days of a Christopher Nolan DC comic book movie are in the past. The realistic tone of the Dark Knight trilogy heavily contrasts Suicide Squad, which fully embraces its comic book lore. The fun and yet menacing tone that the film’s trailer embodies perfectly depicts the characters themselves. Of course we won’t know just how wonderful the film truly is until this summer. Start the countdown folks, only seven short months to go.
