Psychedelic blues rock band Mystery Fyre burst onto the local music scene in 2009, playing local shows in Bloomsburg as well as state-wide music festivals. Consisting of brothers Wes, Jake, and Joey Knorr from Lightstreet, Pennsylvania, Mystery Fyre has been playing since 2007. Their music is a mix of blues, funk, folk, and rock and roll all blended into an interesting mix of sounds, with Wes on lead guitar, Jake on bass guitar, and Joey on drums.
Many of their songs started as up to 20-minute jam sessions cut down into three to four minute songs for easy listening and lasting enjoyment. The band got a lot of recognition by playing their first festival in Kempton, Pennsylvania at Some Kind of Jam 4. The music festival, held by Jibberjazz Productions, includes jam, jazz, funk, rock and roll and blues bands from around the country.
Mystery Fyre has produced three albums, the latest being ‘The Root of the Woo,’ consisting of a rock and soul sound that can be compared to The Doors and similar rock and roll bands from the 60’s and 70’s. Their fourth studio album will be coming out soon, so look out for that!
Mystery Fyre plays at Balzano’s Italian Kitchen on the first Friday of each month. Mystery Fyre goes on stage at 9:30 p.m. and the guest band follows shortly after them playing until 1:00 a.m. or later! Last month they played with Flux Capacitor, a band from the Philadelphia area who also plays state-wide festivals around Pennsylvania. Very similar to Mystery Fyre, they play a genre of psychedelic funk rock, with a slightly more fast-paced style.
On the first Friday of March, Mystery Fyre will be playing with a band called Appalachian Gypsy Tribe, so for those interested in a good time with good people, don’t miss out on next week’s First Fyre Friday, only at Balzano’s Italian Kitchen on Main Street in Bloomsburg!
