So You Want to Watch Miraculous…

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir has been my guilty pleasure since about 2017, but the show has been around since 2015. It’s an animated superhero romance show in which the two main characters are in love with each other without knowing it. The show is inspired by popular American superheroes with Ladybug being similar to Spider-Man, and Cat Noir being akin to Cat Woman. The show has action, romance, drama, and suspense, all set against a beautiful backdrop of Paris.

Unfortunately, the licensing for Miraculous is a little wonky since it’s made overseas and not by one of the major distributors in the United States. All seasons (1-5) and the “Miraculous World” specials are available on Disney+, but the movie is on Netflix (THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO WATCH). If you don’t have a Disney+ subscription, seasons 1-3 are available on Netflix, but not seasons 4 & 5 (I know, it’s weird).

With 5 seasons, each with 26 episodes, not every episode is a winner. And on top of the weird licensing, many episodes are out of order. This is my ideal episode watch list so that new Miraculous fans can get to the good stuff as soon as possible (and in the best order). Episodes marked with a star are optional; they don’t pertain much to the plot but they’re still entertaining. This list omits 7 episodes with another 8 marked optional. I hope you or a friend becomes a new fan of Miraculous with this watch list! Pound it!

Next to each episode is its episode number on Disney+ and Netflix.

“Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie,” is currently only available on Netflix. The animation and art style are stunning. The movie really highlights the romance between the two main characters, while staying in line with the humor and action from the series. When watching, keep in mind that the movie takes place in a sort of parallel universe to the timeline of the show. The movie is NOT a retelling of the series.

It’s also worth noting that the movie is a musical. Some of the songs run a little long, and the American voice actress for Marinette (Cristina Vox) is not the singing voice for Marinette in the movie. I, like many, would have liked to see Cristina singing the songs. Thankfully, she just released an album that includes three covers of songs from the movie.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you. I hope you enjoy Miraculous as much as I do!
