Bloomsburg baseball team defeats the Fairmont State Falcons in a three-game sweep at home this weekend. Saturday, the team won 6-1 and 9-7 in the second game. The sweep was set after Sunday’s win, finishing 9-3 at the John F. Babb field at Bloomsburg Area High School. The Huskies (4-5) went eight innings scoring multiple runs, while the Falcons (1-9) were scoreless until then.

In Sunday’s game, pitcher, Scott Gilbert, struck out four hitters and only allowed three hits, leading the Falcons to four scoreless innings. Later in the fourth inning, Micheal Standen was placed as a relief pitcher for the rest of the game. Standen led the team to his second victory of the year. The high offensive output started when Wyatt Metzger hit down the middle, allowing us to start our run and get on first base. The next batter, Jonathan LaBarbera, was hit by a pitch when he was next at-bat, allowing the team to be in a bases-loaded situation. Brandon Erst then came in to hit a two-run single to left field, allowing Metzger and Viggiano to score for the Huskies. In the fourth inning, Eli Riley then hit a high ball to right field, sacrificing his pitch to have the Huskies score instead. Fifth inning coming along, the Husky offense put up a strong push of runs to make the score 8-0 in the bottom of the fifth.

Of the offense for the Huskies, seven different starting players accounted for a total of 11 hits during Sunday’s game. Several of the Bloomsburg players also went on to have a two-hit day, allowing us to win the three-game series. The series this weekend concluded with 24 runs on 34 hits in 23 innings of play total. Next week, the Huskies take on non-conference LeMoyne University in a doubleheader at home and look to continue their winning streak.
