This year has been a big year for ‘plus-size’ individuals. From the first plus-size model being featured in Sports Illustrated, to an exciting new plus-size collection.
Our favorite “Pitch Perfect” and “Bridesmaids” actress, Rebel Wilson, better known as, Fat Amy, is coming out with her own clothing line. Wilson is teaming with a current plus-size fashion brand, Torrid. Torrid released the news of the limited-edition clothing line on May 12.
The line is expected to release in November, according to a press release. To many plus-size individual’s excitement, Wilson also expects to release another collection next spring.
She confirmed the rumors of the collection on her personal twitter when she tweeted, “Yep, I’m bringing out a clothing line in November! #RebelforTorrid and if you’re too skinny for it, you can buy the bag.”
Wilson’s collection for this year, “Rebel for Torrid,” will have pieces including tops, bottoms, jackets, dresses and accessories. The prices for the 25 pieces will vary from $28.50 to $125 and the sizes will range from 12-28. Stores such as Lane Bryant and Target carry Torrid and are expected to be carrying Wilson’s line later this year.
As we’ve seen, Wilson has a very unique personality that shines through vividly in her various characters she has played. In her clothing line, she will add her own personal spin on some of the pieces, including a microphone-shaped hardware and a koala print tee.
Wilson is a 29-year-old Australian born actress who continues to make a name for herself in Hollywood for her acting ability, and now will be well known for her clothing line. This collaboration between Torrid and Wilson will be Torrid’s first fashion collaboration.
The senior vice president of design for Torrid, Liz Munoz, spoke of the collaboration with Wilson, “Rebel’s got a natural instinct for design. She’s been totally hands-on throughout the process. She cares about every detail, down to the diamante rivet on the jeans. We love the results…she crushed it.”
Wilson also included a statement, “I’ve never really felt like there’s a brand out there in the plus-size world that is creating cool stuff, that fits well, and is good quality yet affordable. It’s really only been in the last few years that I’ve seen companies try. So it was awesome to team with Torrid, who I think are doing such a great job in making plus-size fashion relevant and dope.”
Along with her numerous roles in society, she also has easily become a positive body advocate where she hopes women learn to accept themselves for who they are, regardless of their body shape.
Come November, the line is expected to be a big hit, considering it’s a fashionable and affordable plus-size line. The huge perk of the line is that it’s a collaboration from the wonderful Rebel Wilson.
