Quest adding 5k race to Winter Festival

A 5K race will be added to this year’s activities for the Human-Powered Winter Festival at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. The second annual festival is sponsored by Quest, a leadership development program on campus, and will be held Saturday, Jan. 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the climbing wall on upper campus.

The second annual festival is sponsored by Quest, a leadership development program on campus, and will be held Saturday, Jan. 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the climbing wall on upper campus.

The 5K race will cover a combination of clearly marked roads, fields and trails. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. with the race starting at 11 a.m. The fee for the race is $20, which includes registration, hydration station and event medal. Proceeds will support Quest’s projects that provide outdoor recreation and leadership opportunities to the Bloomsburg community.

All other festival events will begin at noon, and most are free to the community and students of all ages. A dog sled team will be on hand for demonstrations and offer dog sledding rides for a small fee. Other activities will include simulated ice climbing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and kayak snow sledding. The following clinics will also be offered throughout the day:

– Introduction to Cross Country Skiing, 12:15 p.m.
– Dog Sledding, 12:45 p.m.
– Winter Clothes and Camping, 1:15 p.m.
– Ice Climbing 101, 1:30 p.m.
– Dog Sledding, 2 p.m.
– Avalanche Beacons, 2:30 p.m.
– Snowshoeing Basics and Hike, 2:45 p.m.
– Dog Sledding, 3 p.m.
– Hypothermia and Winter Injuries, 3:30 p.m.
– Styles of Skiing, 3:45 p.m.
