Review: “Doctor Strange” Trailer

This past Thursday, Benedict Cumberbatch appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote his new film, the next movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Strange. Cumberbatch appeared via video call dressed as the title character and brought along a brand new clip of the upcoming film.doctorstrange

While not much can be said about the actual film so far, it’s safe to say that it will act as an origin story for Doctor Strange, a Marvel character who has never appeared on the big screen.

The scene opens with dark images of Cumberbatch, apparently the victim of a car crash, and cuts to the Marvel logo before cutting back to Cumberbatch being rushed through a hospital. Cumberbatch’s character is presented as a brilliant doctor who suffered a devastating injury and is then trained in the mystic arts by Tilda Swinton’s character, “The Ancient One.” As soon as Swinton’s character appears onscreen, the images on screen become almost Inception-esque with Cumberbatch leaving his own body, an entire hallway becoming a kaleidoscope, and the entire atmosphere changing so the tops of buildings face each other. DR.Strange Screenshot

Needless to say, the new trailer was incredible. As a fan of the MCU, I’m always excited to see a new feature, and it looks like Doctor Strange won’t disappoint. While I’m still processing everything I’ve seen, I can’t help but think about how perfect the casting of Cumberbatch is, and how visually incredible the new film must be. Although we’ll have to wait until November, there’s no doubt in my mind that Doctor Strange will be another Marvel masterpiece.
