Project Trio Set to Rock BU with Performance and Residency

Are you ready to beatbox? How about on a flute? Come out to see Project Trio do just that on Friday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. at Carver Hall in K.S. Gross Auditorium.

This first Celebrity Artist Series performance of the spring semester features beatboxing flutist Greg Patillo with cellist Eric Stephenson and double bassist Peter Seymour. These guys may be classically trained, but don’t be fooled, they bring modern rock energy to their performances. With over 78 million views and 75,000 subscribers on Youtube, Project Trio has become a viral sensation as one of the most watched instrumental ensembles on the web.

If you are still not stoked to see these guys, check them out and see for yourself!

Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children and B.U. students. You can purchase tickets at the Performing Arts Box Office in Haas Center for the Arts lobby, by phone at 570-389-4409, or online at the box office website.

In addition to performing this Friday, Project Trio will visit with the university music department as part of an artist residency Thursday, Feb. 6 to Saturday, Feb. 8. The group will host master classes  on Thursday, open only to music majors, featuring a “Meet the Artists” reception at noon on Mitrani Stage.

With the performance on Friday, the residency will end with a “Flute and Friends Day” on Saturday. The “Flute and Friends Day” includes classes on beatbox flute and rhythm and improvisation as well as an additional performance by Project Trio. These classes are great for any instrumentalist who wants to learn more about flute beatboxing from the master!  All students are welcome to the reception on Thursday; high school students and musicians in the university ensemebles are especially encouraged to attend the “Flute and Friends” Day.

The “Meet the Artists” reception and “Flute Day” are available for all musicians to attend and take place in Haas Center for the Arts. High school and university music ensemble members are especially encouraged to attend. If you are interested, email Dr. Tracey Schmidt-Jaynes at tschmidt@bloomu.edu to secure your spot.
