Nicki Minaj, known world-wide for being a funky, wild rapper, has really made a name for herself in the music industry and within pop cultural.

In 2010, when Minaj released her debut album, Pink Friday, it peaked at number one on the U.S Billboard 200 and was also certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America a month after being released. Minaj became the first female solo artist to have seven singles on Billboard Hot 100 all at one time. Known for her wild verses, colorful wigs, and crazy outfits, Minaj has become a household name. With such great success and a spunky attitude it’s no wonder American Idol wanted her on the judges’ panel this season.

Rumor has it that everyone on Idol didn’t want Minaj. The tabloids reported that co-judge, legendary Mariah Carey, was not a fan and did not want Minaj joining her as a judge. Carey does not think Minaj can sing, and certainly does not think she should be judging others. An Idol source told People magazine that Carey had been making jabs at Minaj, such as calling her a “b***h.” Minaj didn’t take this lightly and allegedly replied with, “I’m gonna knock you out!”

On Oct. 3, 2012, TMZ released a video of Minaj lashing out at Carey, seemingly the last straw for the two. After the video leaked, the American Idol judges had a meeting where they agreed to move forward in a positive light and not speak about the incident to the press.
Minaj felt blindsided when Carey told Barbara Walters that Minaj had allegedly threatened to shoot Carey if she had a gun. Minaj couldn’t believe what she had heard and she took her shock to Twitter and began to tweet about the incident. One tweet involving Walters: “Barbara Walters didn’t reach out from our team barbz. I guess we’re too dangerous. Don’t shake if u don’t wannA get shook!!!! LmAooooooooooo.”. Another tweet commenting on the threat again was, “Ironically no camera or mic heard the gun comment tho. Lol @ the struggle. Not even the producers believed you. Say no to violence barbz.” Frantic Minaj continued to tweet about the situation. Minaj feels Carey is claiming to have been threatened for sympathy and the situation never happened.
Tabloids are asking was this feud between the two idol judges’ staged for publicity for American Idol or was it real?
