Harry Potter:The Beginning of the End
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 was released this past weekend. Here is a review of the film by Potter fan.
The latest film in the Harry Potter franchise was released Friday, November 19. The seventh film in the series is titled Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. Deathly Hallows Part 2 will be released this July.
The film made $24 million only from midnight showings and a total of over $61 million on Friday, and is on track to break the franchise’s record of $102.7 million opening weekend for the 2005 release of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
This film starts off strong and emotional from the first scene. Fans who read the book will be pleased that the movie is the closest to the book from any of the others in the series, but is also fully enjoyable to those who haven’t read the books.
Deathly Hallows Part 1 is very different from the previous six films in the series. This film doesn’t take place at the wizarding school Hogwarts, but instead in a variety of places all throughout the United Kingdom. This film, because it doesn’t occur only while on school grounds, move quicker than all of the previous films.
The movie runs for nearly two and a half hours, but the action starts from the beginning of the film and lasts until the last scene. The movie leaves the viewers wanting more, due mainly to the fact that this film covers only half of the final book.
In the first moments of the film, Harry is seen holding a broken piece from a mirror, but when he looks into it, it’s not his reflection you see. For those who read the books, there will be no problem recognizing this mirror. The films never covered where Harry received this mirror, so those who haven’t read the books will be confused. This isn’t just a little detail, either, because the mirror becomes a very important part of the story, not only in Part 1, but also in Part 2.
Some scenes in the film are very emotional, and long time fans should be armed with some tissues, but the film is also full of action, so viewers will also be kept on the edge of their seats. The film was an excellent adaptation of the books, and all viewers will be able to take something from it.
For fans of the series, the movie will be very enjoyable, but for those who haven’t seen all the films or read all of the books, the film may be confusing. If you plan on seeing the film, make sure you remember the previous movies or books, particularly Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, because the film picks up where the last left off, and there isn’t a recap of some of the most crucial pieces of information.
