Greg Hardy: a Disgrace to the NFL, but Jerry Jones Defends Him?

The New York Giants defeated the Dallas Cowboys 27-20 in week seven; but many people were not talking about the result of the game.

Instead, what people were talking about was the antics of Cowboys defensive end, Greg Hardy, who was shown getting into several altercations on the sideline during the game.

The first incident we saw showed Hardy having a heated discussion with teammate Dez Bryant, as the 6’5, 280 pound defensive end got shoulder-to-shoulder with the 6’2, 220 pound wide receiver.

The second incident we saw was not caught on-air, but other camera angles clearly show Hardy slapping a clipboard out of special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia’s hands. This YouTube video recaps both incidents:

As if this already childish behavior was not enough, here’s how Hardy cooperated with reporters after the game:

How could all of this make the Dallas Cowboys look any worse, you may ask? Just take a look at this quote from the Huffington Post of Cowboys owner, president, and general manager Jerry Jones:

“Of course, [Hardy is] one of the real leaders on this team and he earns it with respect from all of his teammates, and that’s the kind of thing that inspires. I don’t know if you watched him warm up out there, but he was almost — he was inspiration in his method of warming up. He was ready to play and he was just getting the guys ready to play, in my view. I don’t have any issue with him being involved in motivating or pushing any part of the football team because he plays and walks the walk.”

For those of you who may not be aware, Hardy is not a good dude. In May of 2014, Hardy was arrested for assault and communicating threats. Hardy is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend by throwing her onto a piece of furniture that had Hardy’s guns on it, strangling her and threatening to shoot her. In July of 2014, a judge sentenced Hardy to 18 months probation, suspending a 60 day jail sentence. Hardy then appealed the decision and requested a jury trial. When the trial took place, Hardy’s ex-girlfriend did not show up. After she did not show up to testify, the charges were dropped.

Hardy is an awful human being and does not deserve to play in the NFL. If you compare this situation to the Ray Rice debacle, the fact that Hardy is playing right now is a complete joke. Fox’s Terry Bradshaw summed it up pretty nicely on “The OT” Sunday evening:

You are 100% correct, Bradshaw. There is absolutely no place for people like Hardy in the NFL, and Jones is making a complete idiot of himself for being an enabler for him. In fact, according to a report from ESPN, Jones wants to give Hardy a contract extension after this season. What a joke, honestly.

I feel bad for the players in the Cowboys locker room. To have to put up with a player like that all the time must be a real challenge. One way or another, if this behavior continues, a handful of real Cowboys leaders must get together and confront Jerry Jones and tell him that this is unacceptable. But who am I kidding? If all the people of America is not getting to Jones, a handful of Cowboys players likely won’t either.
