Game of Thrones is the most popular TV show to date. There were high expectations of Season 8 since this was the final season of the franchise. As of May 19, Game of Thrones has closed its book and its watch has ended. Fans of Game of Thrones were divided on this particular season. Recent Twitter and Facebook postings and petitions on change.org indicate some people want a reboot of Game of Thrones Season 8. Now the war is over and here are my thoughts about this season.

I really love the ideas they played off of in this series, but what this season lacked was extra detail. Like adding peanut butter with your PB&J, the more you eat the better the sandwich. Some changes felt too quick for me, because some situations felt forced rather than natural or given. But the battle scenes were gorgeous to watch. The directing of those episodes and the beginning of this season were the big highlights for me, as well as the interaction with characters and the tension one felt wondering what is going to happen when the Night King showed up. I do wish the Night King had showed up at the end so that extra detail would have filled in the gaps. I’m curious about why they didn’t do 10 episodes but only did six instead.

There were a couple of things I didn’t like about this season, such as how one of the dragons dies and how the child of Daenerys Targaryen is by getting shot by one of the scorpions. I would have been fine with those decisions if the shot was long distance rather than so close to the fleet that it is visible to see the enemy. They’re right there! How could you not see them?! Secondly, The Mad Queen, Daenerys Targaryen is one of my favorite characters and seeing what she did on “The Bells” episode broke my heart. Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea, but it could have been executed better. It felt how Anakin Skywalker turned towards the Dark Side. It was abrupt, and the foreshadowing was interesting leading up to this. But I felt if Cersei Lannister did something like fired a secret scorpion at her why the Lannister army was surrendering could have been better.

The last episode of Game of Thrones was going to make it or break it with fans.  When watching this episode I was very tense thinking how it was going to end. Was there going to be a battle between Stark and Tageryan? Will the Night King make a comeback? Dragons coming back to Westeros and enslaving humanity?! None of that and I love it. How slow it started, you didn’t know what to expect. Your expectations were there but it wasn’t predictable! I only had two gripes with the last episode. One of them being the Throne melted by Drogo after his emotional response of his Mother’s death. Rest in Peace Daenerys of House Targaryen, Mother of Dragons, Breaker of Chain, first of her name. I’m curious where Drogo is taking her body? Is there a revival stone or something I missed? I was heart-struck, after eight years for someone to sit in that chair, and it gets melted! I was hoping Jon Snow AKA Aegon Targaryen second of his name, the real ruler of the seven kingdoms would sit on that throne! BUT NO!! I was hoping Jon became something at the end. Jon was the lower runt of the litter, a bastard, no one cared about him (beside the Stark Children), and if he became the king of the seven kingdoms that would have been brilliant!! But no, he goes back to the Night’s Watch back where he started. I was so disappointed in that; hopefully, maybe Geroge Martin can change that in his two upcoming books.

My overall thoughts on this season were enjoyable, and I had fun watching this season live. I remember watching all of the Game of Thrones series on HBO Go within a month. Now you know what I did over winter break. If this season had 10 episodes, I think they would have nailed it for some fans. In the end, even after this season, Game of Thrones is still one of my favorite TV shows. I will definitely miss it and will look forward to the Prequel series coming soon! #MoreDragonsPleaseBeacuseTheyreAmazing I rate this season a 7 out of 10.
