David Bowie Dead at 69

The influential English rocker whose career spanned five decades has died at the age of 69. According to Rolling Stone, Bowie had been suffering from an 18 month battle with cancer and passed away surrounded by family on Jan. 10.

Born David Robert Jones, he was an example of genius and originality in its purest form.

When fans and music enthusiasts think of Bowie, they may think of his glam rock, flamboyant alter-ego, Ziggy Stardust. Some like to think of his 1977 album, Heroes. Children of the ‘80s may know him best as Jareth, the Goblin King in the 1986 fantasy film Labyrinth.

His death comes just two days after the release of his new album Blackstar (which was released on his 69th birthday).

Bowie leaves behind son Duncan Zowie, 44, daughter Alexandria Zahara Jones, 15, and wife of 24 years, Iman.

To look back on Bowie’s life, read the Rolling Stone article that highlights the path of his career. In the article, it talks about the Aladdin Sane album, his 1976 film The Man Who Fell to Earth, and how David Robert Jones became the David Bowie that will be remembered forever in rock history.

This song from the 1977 album Heroes, captures just a smidgen of musical gold Bowie released in his lifetime.

Goodbye David Bowie. You will be missed
