Assassin’s Creed III Leaks Become a Full-flowing Faucet
Ubisoft gives the public what they want; official information about the long awaited Assassin’s Creed III.
The day has finally come where history will once again meet gaming; with the cool approach, atleast. Leaks upon leaks of information have been released for the past week about Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed III. The company finally gave into the pressure of rumors and officially announced some significant information about the upcoming game. One of these details include it’s setting; The Revolutionary War.
Ever since the very first Assassin’s Creed was released, players have been looking forward to the day Assassin’s Creed III would be announced. Fans have been predicting game details from the day Assassin’s Creed II came out. When Assassin’s Creed Revelations released, fans were surprised that Ubisoft had gone beyond just a simple trilogy of games. Instead, they released a spin-off of the second game. Some were skeptical, but Ubisoft is not known for creating pointless game expansions. Revelations pleased fans, creating the question “When will the third game come out and what can we expect next?”
These open-world games track the life of bartender Desmond Miles, a young man with a long bloodline of assassins, who flees his destiny to become an assassin for a more simplistic lifestyle. He is kidnapped by Abstergo, a group of people who know about his historic bloodlines. They force Miles to use the Animus, a machine allowing this protagonist to experience past events of his ancestors, thus leading the group to rare artifacts. Another group wants to help Miles and successfully rescues him. He agrees to wo
rk with them and use the Animus to discover the artifacts before Abstergo does. You follow his experiences in the Animus and play as Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad, an assassin during the Crusades, and Ezio Auditore da Firenze, an assassin in Italy during the 15th and 16th centuries of the Renaissance. These men with the incredibly long Italian names have also come into contact with some of the artifacts all of these people are after.
Ubisoft decided to include a risky change up in the plot of the game. The decision to set the third game in America was an incredibly risky choice seeing as how the previous three games have all taken place in Italy. Other possible settings for the third installation included the Russian Revolution, ancient Egypt, and Victorian England.
Ubisoft announced a release date for Assassin’s Creed III, hoping to give their fan base something to look forward to. Soon after, the tease was ruined after a Best Buy employee leaked a flier. Unfortunately for Ubisoft, they employee has spoiled their originally planned unveiling of the game’s details and pre-order bonuses on March 5. The flier included an all new hero cloaked in the white assassin’s coat, the assassin’s emblem on his belt, and the colonial American flag faded behind him. His body is covered with different weapons, including bow and arrows, guns, and a tomahawk. Yes, a tomahawk!
It’s been confirmed that the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed III will be Native American. There was an up-rise after hearing this statement. Just as I had reacted, other fans were pleasantly surprised.. The peculiar choice of a Native American protagonist is, accordingly to Kotaku, supposed to give players a twist of the history they’ve learned throughout their lives. It has become possible to see the war from the blue coats point of view, although the games are very loose with their historic accuracy.
Although the games had only a slight guideline to historic accuracy, the buildings and historic settings are absolutely breath-taking. Some fans are biting their nails waiting to see what could have possibly been done with a setting like the American Revolution. How far can the designers go with a big battlefield of grass and some colonial buildings? This question brings up the concern of the amount buildings and scenery that you can climb up or free run across, which makes the game exactly what it is. Kotaku makes a great point in one of their articles that Colonial America has towering cathedrals, forts, and ships, as well. 
Ubisoft officially released the cover art of the new game seeing as one of the fliers had already been shown to the public. The confirmed game cover art reveals a white hooded character assassinating a red coat. Behind him fades a scene from the American Revolution into a colonial American flag. What’s interesting is that the main character will be a Native American, fighting the Americans in this war. Character appearances in the game are supposed to include George Washington and the other founding fathers.
The game has been announced for release on Oct. 30. Predicted system releases include the Xbox360, PS3, and PC as the past three games traditionally have, and also on the new WiiU system.
