12 Days of Christmas: Day 2 – New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Day 2: New Super Mario Brothers Wii

The next great game on our list for this holiday season is New Super Mario Brothers Wii. Although the game is a few years old, it is a timeless gift for none other than the Wii. The game has a few other renditions with slightly different names for other gaming devices like the DS, 3DS, and WiiU with the same game play, as well.

New Super Mario Brothers Wii is much like the original Super Mario Brothers for the Nintendo64 system, but, well, new. All of the great aspects of the Nintendo64 were put into this game and has some great new aspects that couldn’t have been done 25 years ago when Super Mario first started out.

Team work using the propeller suits to float over platforms hidden by misty clouds.

There are 3D effects like tilting platforms and clouds that fade over enemies. There are some new suits, as well, including the propeller suit, which boosts players up into the air, and the penguin suit, which allows players to throw ice and snow balls at oncoming enemies.

This game, much like Little Big Planet, which was Day 1 of the 12 Days of Video Games, is a game everybody can get together and play. Don’t expect to come out of the game with everybody still being friends, though.

Up to four of your closest loved ones can gang up in this side-scrolling adventure game. With one person as Mario, one as Luigi, and the other two as blue and yellow Toads, you will work your way to the finish line. Teamwork is important to get through the levels, but it only matters who makes it to the end most successfully, causing players to jump on each other or purposely leave them behind.

The game is perfect for all ages due to its Super Guide mode, which when turned on will show a play-through of the computer completing the level. This is perfect for inexperienced gamers who are stuck on a level.

This timeless game will be sure to put a smile on your loved one’s face this holiday season. Keep checking back for Day 3 of the 12 Days of Video Games.
