“A trendy zoo to get you through, when life gets a little wild”; is the slogan of a local boutique in downtown Bloomsburg called, The Purple Zebra. It is a place for college females to buy trendy clothes and accessories. Nicole Good, owner and founder of The Purple Zebra, creates her own pieces for her boutique and also orders from LA’s famous fashion district. Only three to six of each handpicked fashionable pieces are available in the boutique in order to protect everyone’s individuality in the town of Bloomsburg. “I would say 75% of my customers are BU students. Students get a 20% discount with their Bloom ID”, Good said. A Bloomsburg University student spoke highly of the boutique saying, “The Purple Zebra is really the only place close to campus for girls to buy fun clothes.” The Purple Zebra carries mostly US made clothing, Good wishes to keep Americans working and in business.
“My mother taught me how to sew when I was about four or five years old”, Good explained. Growing up Good had an eye for fashion, and by middle school she was making her own dresses. Good has spent her entire life living in Bloomsburg, except during her college years. She attended Penn State and The Art Institute of Philadelphia where she worked for her degree in Fashion Design. She also has an associate’s degree in Interior Design and has decorated the interior of the Purple Zebra.
“I would say most of my inspiration comes from nature”, Good described. Blogging is also one of Goods hobbies. Her blog has a number of informing fashion trends for your closet to your home décor. When students go home for the summer it becomes slow for the boutique, Good would like to launch her own small clothing line called “Good & Pretty” that she will be sewing all herself. “I came up with the name Good & Pretty because of my last name and what girl doesn’t want to be pretty?”, Good explained. Good & Pretty is also the name of her blog. Along with keeping her blog up to date, managing The Purple Zebra, working with an interior design show restoring old homes and writing a column for the local newspaper Good is the mother of a two-year-old son! Good plans on teaching a sewing and design class in the near future with about three students to a class and also teach private lessons. At the time prices are being discussed.
The local fashion designer keeps very busy and does a great job keeping the females of Bloomsburg happy with her creations. Get out there and make the sidewalk your runway!
