Donald Trump vs. Pope Francis

It’s no secret that U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump and leader of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, have some very different world views.

pope vs. trumpTrump has been the forefront of the news cycle since he announced his candidacy last year. A major focus of Trump’s campaign has been his standpoint on immigration… or rather mass deportation. Trump has stated in a number of interviews that he plans to deport all illegal immigrants from the country and build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border to “keep the rapists out.”

Pope Francis has since come out against Trump, stating in an interview, “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not of building bridges, is not Christian. This is not the Gospel.”

The Pope’s statement has since caused a back and forth between the two, with Trump claiming the Mexican Government was using the pope as a pawn.

Supporters of Trump have stated that the Pope’s comments are un-Christian; as they believe criticizing someone else’s beliefs go against the teachings of the church. While the Pope has not directly told anyone not to vote for Trump, it seems very clear where his allegiances lie.
