Donald Glover: Jack of All Trades

Donald Glover, Childish Gambino, Mc DJ… Donald Glover is a jack of all trades, he has been a rapper, DJ, comedian, singer, voice actor, film producer, composer, music producer, screenwriter, songwriter, television director, television producer and a father of two.
It’s been an eventful career for Glover, let’s look at his recent moves that have grabbed the attention of the nation.
Television Takeover
PEACH STATE! If you haven’t seen Atlanta… do yourself a favor and binge watch it (the whole first season is available with your cable provider!). Now listen, we’re in one of the best time periods for black television. “Insecure,” “Survivor’s Remorse,” “Grown-ish,” The Chi,” “Black-ish,” “Power,” “Empire,” “Luke Cage,” etc. are led by great black actors.
Atlanta fits into this wave of great television. It’s raw, uncut, authentic, black, funny, real, and bold. The show won Emmy and Golden Globe awards in its first season. Atlanta on FX is everything you need on a screen. Thank me later.
Award-Winning Album
Awaken My Love is Childish Gambino’s third studio album. The album went certified gold, selling over 500,000 copies. Awaken My Love gave us the classic single, “Redbone” that went triple platinum. The record Redbone is full of funk, black soul, lust, and love. It gives off a timeless feel. Turn your headphones up, sit back, close your eyes, and let the record take you on a journey.
But let me be honest, in the beginning, Awaken My Love was the album I criticized the most in 2016. I didn’t understand it. I wondered, “Where was the real Childish Gambino?” I received a singing album instead of clever verses and metaphors. It was soul, funk, and R&B. It forced me to expand my horizon. Awaken My Love grew to become a project I greatly cared for and appreciated because it was bold and new.
(Redbone later appeared in the blockbuster film, Get-Out)
Acting Accolades
Bring out the awards! He’s here to collect! In 2017, Glover won two Emmys, “Outstanding Lead Actor for a Comedy Series” and “Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series” for Atlanta.
Glover was sure to throw some shade towards Donald Trump with his acceptance speech.”I want to thank Trump for making Black people number one on the most oppressed list. He’s the reason I’m probably up here, “said Donald.
Fun Fact: Donald Glover shouted out The Migos while on stage, for their record “Bad and Boujee.” The Migos streams for the single rose by more than 200%.
Upcoming Roles
“Duuh Duuh da da da Duuh Duuh da da da Duuh Duuh dun-dun-dun-duuuuh…” But let’s give this man credit! Glover will be playing young, Lando Calrissian in an upcoming Star Wars movie. Lando is a smuggler and a scammer who ends up becoming one of the most selfless and brave leaders, in the historic “Star Wars” saga, fighting against the Empire.
Disney made a huge announcement, telling the world that “The Lion King” was getting live-action remake to the classic 1994 animated film. The cast so far isn’t few on stars: Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Seth Rogen, Beyoncé, are only a few heavyweight names to star in this film. EXPECTATIONS ARE HIGH! Summer 2019 is the when the film is expected to be released.
Early Retirement
Believe it or not, the end of Childish Gambino is near. Glover announced he’s ready to retire the alter ego, Childish Gambino.
“There’s nothing worse than, like, a third sequel, like, the third movie and we’re like, ‘again?'” Glover Told the Huffington Post. “You know, I like it when something’s good and when it comes back there’s a reason to come back, there’s a reason to do that.”
He’ll be back one last time, for his fourth studio album as Childish Gambino.
