Discoveries in China Continue

Ironically, Heyuan is known as the “Home of Dinosaurs.” The city became recognized in 2004 when it set a Guinness World Record for the world’s largest collection of dinosaur eggs at its museum. With this new finding, that number is likely to increase.
Huang Zhiqing, the museum’s deputy director, told CNN reporters that Sunday marked the first time that fossils were discovered within the city’s boundaries. This event was so remarkable that researchers and workers had to postpone the work to dig up the eggs.
Some statistical information has also been revealed. Nineteen of these eggs are completely intact. The largest fossil measures as much as 13 centimeters (five inches). Researchers will continue to gather information to see what species the eggs belong to.
There are plenty of fossil sites all over the world. People dig for fossils and take them home as collector’s items. However, finding fossils of this magnitude is very rare because of the value and history that they hold. In this case, value and history will be put on display.
