Chris Brown was just recently denied entry into Canada, resulting in the cancellations of two of his concerts. Brown was scheduled to play at the Belle Centre in Montreal on Tuesday, Feb. 24, and the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
Brown reached out to his fans about the cancellation of the concerts, tweeting: “Unfortunately I will not be able to perform in front of sold out crowds in Montreal & Toronto. The good people of the Canadian government wouldn’t allow me entry. I’ll be back this summer and will hopefully see all my Canadian fans!” These tweets have now been deleted.
According to Nicole Perma, who is a spokeswoman of Brown, Canadian immigration officials denied him entry, but, reportedly, he can apply to return to Canada at later dates, which Brown plans on doing.
E! News reached out to Live Nation looking for them to comment on the situation. According to Live Nation, the concerts were cancelled “due to immigration issues,” but refunds are available.
Many rumors have been flying around about the reasons for Brown’s denial. According to TIME, Brown’s publicist has confirmed his denial, but would not give any reasons. Reports have allegedly said that Brown’s denial has to do with his criminal history, including assaulting Rihanna back in 2009 and a felony assault in 2013.
With the news of Brown’s denial into Canada, the Internet blew up, especially Twitter. The Twittersphere exploded with memes and tweets stating that Brown couldn’t enter Canada because of rapper, Drake. Drake is a native of Canada, having been born in Toronto (think back to his days on Degrassi which was set in Canada).
Currently, there are rumors going around that Drake is “laughing” at Brown and rapper Tyga because of their new album. Drake’s album If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late is above Tyga and Brown’s album Fan of a Fan: The Album in the charts. Because of the competition between the artists, Twitter users knew they could draw attention to the fact that Brown was not allowed into Canada.
Many people simply tweeted about the situation, laughing at it:
“Chris Brown was denied entry into Canada…I know @Drake had something to do with it…where is that #6god?” -@amberlockhert
“When Drake got so much on lock even Chris Brown isn’t even allowed to perform in Canada” -@RastaaMo
“Lmao Drake went and stopped Chris Brown from entering Canada. 6 god. I’m crying” -@Putthehuginthug
Other people created memes. Many of the memes include pictures of Drake laughing hysterically with captions such as, “Lmaooooooo @Chris Brown not being allowed in Canada” and “@chrisbrown I DONT SEE HOW YOU CAN HATE FROM OUTSIDE OF CANADA…. YOU CANT EVEN GET IN!”
