Dan Wheldon Dies in Crash at Las Vegas

Indy car driver Dan Wheldon died Sunday in a horrific 15 car crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The native of Great Britain was 33 years old with a wife and two children. Since 2002 Wheldon won 16 races including the 2011 Indianapolis 500. Instant replay showed Wheldon’s car turned over as it went airborne. The 15 car wreck lead to Wheldon having to be airlifted to University Medical Center. Once there was word that Wheldon had died of blunt trauma, the rest of the drivers decided not to race. Instead they got back on the track for a five lap tribute. “Daniel was born to be a racer and yesterday left us doing what he loved to do. He was a true champion and a gentleman on and off the track,” said his father Clive Wheldon.
