A tragedy feared by the parents of every college student, 21-year-old Matthew Royer never returned home to Montgomery County on Friday. A University of Rhode Island student, Royer was seen leaving his apartment and getting gas at approximately 6:30 p.m. before texting his mother to let her know he was on his way home.
Cell towers last registered his phone on Friday in Lehigh County off Vera Cruz Road near Interstate 78 and Route 309. He was seen on surveillance camera using his debit card to purchase a water and gas at a Sunoco near Route 100 in Coopersburg at 2 a.m. Friday. Royer was still right on schedule at this point in the night but never returned home.
After Royer did not show to work at Skippack Golf Course on Friday, his mother contacted police. Royer’s vehicle, a 2008 silver Chevrolet Cobalt with Pennsylvania license plate “GZR 9059”, was spotted at 1 p.m. Friday in Lebanon County at Route 501 and 422 approximately 30 minutes from his home but still has not returned. Royer’s cell phone stopped working at noon on Saturday.
According to CBS Philly, Matthew Royer is 6’1” 160 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark green golf shirt, khaki pants, a beige “Biltmore” baseball cap, and sandals. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Pennsylvania State Police at 610-584-1250 or 911.
