Many compassionate tears are documented in this book. If Claiborne is anything, he is not blind to the views that could perhaps oppose his own. He even admits in his Introduction to the book that he doesn’t fit into the traditional liberal and conservative camps (phew!).
Summary: Claiborne addresses the problems of Christianity past and present, noticing most Christians’ views as being far too future-centric, i.e. geared toward heaven and not earth. Claiborne dismisses loose interpretations of the gospel and puts forth the notion that Jesus meant what he said when he encouraged his followers to give up everything material they own and to share it with the poor. Claiborne documents demonstrations he’s helped lead which propose love as an option against greed. Much of the text is centered in very decisive discussion of Bible-happenings, such as Saul becoming Paul. (358 pgs.)
