Quiteh Takes Home Harlon Hill Award
Florence, Ala.—Bloomsburg football players continue to rake in honors for the 2013 season. On Friday, Dec. 20, , senior running back Franklyn Quiteh was announced as the winner of the 2013 Harlon Hill Award for the best player in Division II.
Quiteh becomes the second player in Bloomsburg history to win the award, behind Irv Sigler, who won it back in 1997. Quiteh had previously finished sixth in the voting as a freshman, and third as a junior last season. Finishing behind him was redshirt senior quarterback Dustin Vaughn of West Texas A&M, and redshirt junior Kevin Rodgers of Henderson State.
During the 2013 season, Quiteh rushed for 2,195-yards and recorded 31 total touchdowns. He averaged 8.3 yards per carry and 182.9 yards per game on the ground, on a Huskies team that went 10-2 and won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title for the first time since 1985. Quiteh also led the nation in rushing yards for the third time in four years, and in rushing touchdowns.
Quiteh was named the 2013 PSAC East Offensive Player of the Year, while rushing for 200 yards or more in six games, and scoring two or more touchdowns in 10 games. He was also named the Daktronics Super Region One Offensive Player of the Year. Quiteh’s 2,195-yard season earned him the honor of being the only player in Division II history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season three times in a career.
Quiteh broke numerous school records during his senior season, most notably the one for most rushing yards in a single game. The senior from Pocono Mt. West high school rushed for 304 yards in a 52-38 win over East Stroudsburg, while chipping in four touchdowns as well. Quiteh rushed for 237-yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winning score with 27 seconds left in a 42-28 title game win over Slippery Rock.
Quiteh also holds just about every other rushing record for the school and PSAC, most of which were held by former Husky running back Jamar Brittingham. His 7,523 career rushing yards are in second for all-time in Division II history, only to Danny Woodhead of Chardon State.
The next step for the senior will likely be the NFL combine and then, possibly, the NFL Draft.
