Put your pride aside: audition for Mr. Bloomsburg
Why not put a spin on the traditional pageant and swap genders?

Recently, pageants have become quite a focal point for television shows, featuring toddlers wearing tiaras, babies winning trophies, and children caked in make-up. Most of these shows focus on girls, who at the ripe age of five have already decided that they WILL be Miss America one day. Most shows follow girls obsessed with being Little Miss This or Little Miss That, and while there are pageants for boys, most of them have age requirements of six or under. And yes, I know that by most societal standards pageants are typical viewed as a girls domain, but where’s the fun in that?
Why not put a spin on the traditional pageant and swap genders? Last time I checked, men look good in suits too, whether they’re going to work or taking a swim. Men also have talents, some that might even be more interesting than ballet or baton twirling. And even though getting an answer out of a man might be like pulling teeth, I think they can handle a little Q&A.
That’s why the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is stepping outside the box and presenting the first annual Mr. Bloomsburg Talent Competition. Twelve men who attend Bloomsburg University will be chosen to compete for the title of Mr. Bloomsburg on April 5th, 2010 in the Kehr Ballroom at 7:00 p.m. The competition will be broken into four separate categories; formal wear, swim wear, talent, and question and answer. With some help from the BU Dance Ensemble, the men will also be working it on stage to a favorite tune. Five female judges, including students, professors, and even a guest judge from the audience will help decide the winner. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the earthquake victims in Haiti.
So, do YOU think you have what it takes to be Mr. Bloomsburg? If so, sign up for an audition time in the Mass Communications office (MCHS 1210) and fill out a short application. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, February 23rd and Wednesday, February 24th from 6:30-8:00 in Studio A (McCormick 1259). Those who are trying out to be a contestant should be prepared to perform a portion of their talent at their audition, so be creative and come prepared! This competition is for the guys, but ladies, we still need your help too. Do you know someone that would be perfect for this competition? Is your boyfriend the life of the party? Recruit a guy and drag them to auditions, because you won’t want to miss out on the prizes, featuring great date night packages.
