Lose Yourself In The Service Of Others: Join Habitat for Humanity!

Recently, the Bloomsburg University chapter of Habitat for Humanity has been re-opened and is an active organization on campus. Joining Habitat For Humanity is a great way to give back to the Bloomsburg community by volunteering a small amount of your time to help those in need. Habitat for Humanity is an international, rapid growing non-profit organization. It specializes in building and renovating affordable housing for low-income families. More than 61,000 families were served by Habitat for Humanity in 2009-a record number served in a single year. I have been an active member for about a year.

Before joining, I never thought I was capable of simply hammering a nail. Since then, I have built door frames, pieced together bedroom walls, and drilled holes. Our Campus Chapter is anxious for new members to expand our work throughout communities of Pennsylvania. Participating in Habitat for Humanity also looks great on a internship, graduate school, and job resume. The organization holds weekly meetings and work- days. This year, it is ran by Eileen Johnson (President), Mark Gamble (Vice President), and Elizabeth McGlinn (Secretary). Not only will you be giving your service to others, but when you volunteer for Habitat, it allows you to work with the individuals that will be living in the home you are constructing. Just by seeing the smiles on their faces melts your heart. Why not find out if Habitat for Humanity is fits you!
