It’s Personal Campaign Announced on the Quad

Today at 11:45 a.m., a new Bloomsburg University campaign called It’s Personal was announced to all of the students, faculty and staff that packed the quad.
Dione Somerville, vice president for Student Affairs, took the podium first to introduce It’s Personal to the crowd:
“This weekend, Bloomsburg University and the Bloomsburg University foundation will publicly announce the official launch of the It’s Personal: The Campaign for Bloomsburg University.”
“As we prepare to launch the It’s Personal campaign, I ask you to think about how your education and personal experiences here will prepare you to have an impact on the lives of others.”
Somerville continued, “How has your experience here at Bloomsburg shaped the person you are today? That’s what the It’s Personal campaign is all about: the chance to reflect on our own experiences here at Bloomsburg. It’s about our collaborative effort involving all members of our community dedicated to continuing our University’s success whose impact will have a profound effect on so many: on current and future students, faculty and staff, and all the lives that you will touch.”
After the introduction of the It’s Personal campaign by Somerville, BU’s President, David Soltz, took the podium and went into more detail about the campaign.
Soltz started by saying, “I am truly excited to launch the It’s Personal campaign with a very ambitious goal of raising $50 million dollars for Bloomsburg University. Since July 1, 2010, thousands (14,800) of alumni and friends have demonstrated their support to help us reach our goal before we made our public announcement. We look forward to sharing our progress toward to this goal later this week with the official campaign launch.”
Soltz explained that the campaign will raise funds to support three specific areas:
- Increasing the number of academic and athletic scholarships available for students
- Attracting and retaining outstanding faculty so we can offer the highest quality education to students
- Continuing and expanding outside of the classroom learning experiences to better prepare students for their careers. These experiences include but are not limited to: internships, undergraduate research, student teaching and study abroad.
Students can help BU to reach this ambitious goal of $50 million dollars by telling friends, parents, students, colleagues and alumni about the It’s Personal campaign and its importance to the success of current and future students.
After Soltz’s speech, CGA President, Sally McAvoy, went into more detail about how each student can help to bring this campaign full circle, followed by some of her personal experiences here at BU.
Students are encouraged to share their personal stories at: www.itspersonal.bloomu.edu
Here, students can reflect on questions like:
- What’s personal to me about Bloomsburg University?
- How did I get here, why did I come and why do I stay?
- Who impacted me most along my journey?
By sharing your individual stories, hopefully you will inspire others to do the same and to participate in this campaign.
After the announcement of the It’s Personal campaign, the campus community enjoyed free food samples from local restaurants like Tri-Pi, Bloomin’ Bagels, Lucy’s Catering, Steph’s Subs, Quaker Steak and Lube and Heeter’s Drive-in ice cream truck.
