Huskies’ Season Ends with Playoff Loss to West Chester
Bloomsburg Pa.—The Bloomsburg University football team saw their season come to an end with a 40-38 home playoff loss to West Chester on Saturday, Nov. 30. With the win, the Golden Rams will advance to play Shepherd University on Saturday, Dec. 7, in the regional final of the Division II playoffs.
For West Chester, their offense was led by junior quarterback Sean McCartney, who completed 24 of 39 passes for 348-yards and three touchdowns. McCartney, who has passed for 3,254-yards and 31 touchdowns this season, hit sophomore tight end Tim Brown with five passes for 112 yards and a touchdown. For Brown, this was a career-high in receiving yards. Senior running back Rondell White also had a productive day, rushing for 113-yards on 27 carries, and also caught five passes for 53-yards.
For the Huskies, redshirt sophomore quarterback Tim Kelly completed 19 of 31 pass attempts for 265-yards, to go along with three touchdowns and an interception. Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Connor Gades caught three passes for 88-yards, including a 72-yard touchdown reception early in the fourth quarter.
On defense, redshirt junior linebacker Justin Shirk led the Huskies with 12 total tackles. Junior cornerback D.J. Robinson, redshirt sophomore Donovan Morris and redshirt senior J.P. Patrick all recorded interceptions for Bloomsburg.
Senior kicker Danny Fisher was good on his only field goal attempt of the day, a 27 yarder.
However, the biggest contributor to the Bloomsburg offense was senior running back Franklyn Quiteh, who led the offense with 208 rushing yards and two touchdowns in his final collegiate game. The senior from Pocono Mt. West High School started all four years at Bloomsburg, breaking nearly every school in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) record for rushing. Quiteh now looks to his future as he has the talent to take his game to the next level.
