It’s that time of year again! Scary movies are taking over television just in time for the Halloween season. For those who don’t know what to watch, here are some movies that are sure to keep you up all night:
1.) Scream: A classic scary movie about a “ghost faced” murderer who kills off teenagers. This leaves the people who are still alive to question the “rules” of a horror movie, as their lives become similar to one.
2.) Paranormal Activity Three: This most recent Paranormal Activity film goes back in time to when leads Kristie and Katie first encounter the entity that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. Catch this film now while it’s still in theaters!
3.) The Halloween Films: A psycho murderer named Mike Myers, who has been institutionalized since childhood for killing his sister when he was six, escapes and goes on a rampage. His doctor chases after him while he chases a high school girl and her friends.
4.) A Nightmare on Elm Street: With physical traits such as scars and finger knives, serial killer Freddy Krueger kills his victims in their dreams, which results in their real life deaths. When a girl named Nancy figures out what is going on, she plots a way to get Krueger out in the real world.
5.) Friday the 13th: Camp counselors are being murdered while trying to re-open a summer camp that was once closed because of a child’s drowning. This child was Jason Vorhees, and he drowned when he was six because the counselors neglected to pay attention. Now he comes back on his birthday, Friday the 13th, to seek revenge.
For those who don’t like to be scared, here are some light-hearted Halloween movies that’ll make you laugh instead of cry:
1.) Shaun on the Dead: A man decides to make his life positive by trying to get his ex back, but he ends up dealing with a community that has returned from the dead. Now all he has to do is prove that he can be useful, while he tries to survive.
2.) The Scary Movie Films: Spoofs on classic horror movies. Throughout all of these “scary” movies there are recognizable characters from other classic, and not so classic, horror films.
3.) Hocus Pocus: Three singing and comedic witches come back from the dead after 300 years and have to be fought off by some mortals (one who lit the virgin candle that brought the witches back) and a talking cat who was once a human named Thackery Binx.
4.) The Halloweentown Movies: Siblings Marnie, Dylan, and Sophie find out that their family comes from a line of witches, and travel to Halloweentown to find out what being a witch is all about. While in Halloweentown, the three siblings embark on a journey to save the town after they find out it is in danger.
5.) Beetle Juice: A ghost couple named Adam and Barbara Maitland (their cause of death being a car crash) finds a humorous zombie named Beetle Juice to scare the new residents of their former home away. All you have to do to get Beetle Juice to help is say his name three times!
