Come See the Bee

The Bloomsburg University Players will be performing the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee February 17-20 at the Alvina Krause Theatre (226 Center St, Bloomsburg)

S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G (breath) B-E-E. A spelling bee is one thing that some children have competed in in their lifetime. What happens when a spelling bee turns into a musical? Well, called “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” What is it you ask? Well…

According to spellingbeethemusical.com, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” is about “six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, who all learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.” These six students are competing in the “spelling bee championship of a lifetime.”

This musical has won two Tony Awards in 2005 for Best Book of a Musical and Best Featured Actor.

“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” will be in Bloomsburg at 226 Center St. in the Alvina Krause Theatre from Thursday, Feb. 17 to Sunday, Feb. 20. You can get your tickets today at the Haas Center for the Arts for just $2 with your Bloomsburg University ID. Box Office hours are Monday through Friday: noon to 4 p.m., hours are extended Wednesday to 7 p.m. when school is in session.
