BU Dance Ensemble 2012

The BU Dance Ensemble hosted their annual recital this weekend and it had great success. When the show began at 7 p.m. there were almost no seats open and everyone seemed very enthusiastic for these young dancers. The show lasted about two hours and kept everyone on the edge of their seats the entire time.

The show consisted of dances of all kinds, including: jazz, African, hip-hop, country, Irish, ballet, tap, step, and modern. Each of these dances are given their own little twist, with each dance being completely choreographed by the students themselves. The loud music livens the dances up, as well as their intricate outfits, also chosen by the students.

The BU dance program has grown over the past 15 years into both guys and girls from all years. There are over 150 participants and all seem to have put their hearts into it.  Some of these students have been dancing their whole lives, while others like Alison Meter, sophomore, just started this year.

“I was nervous I wouldn’t be able to keep up or make it look natural,” said Meter. “Some of the people in my dance group have been doing this for a long time and I didn’t want to disappoint.” However, Meter expressed her love for the club and intends on participating in it for her next two years here at BU. “The teachers really want to help you become better, now having gone through a whole school year I realize there was nothing to be nervous about.”

For those who didn’t make it to the show, make sure you see it next spring. The dance team also hosts a fall showcase to give a little preview for what they have in store for later in the year.
