BUnow Field Hockey Fundraiser helps The Women’s Center Inc.

It was a windy, and rather chilly, day on Saturday, Oct. 26, but BUnow members wrapped themselves in their fluffiest scarves, and braced the cold. BUnow held a fundraiser on upper campus, during Bloomsburg University’s women’s Field Hockey game against Millersville University in an effort to support a great cause. BUnow’s public relations team sold pizza for two dollars a slice, and water bottles for a buck a pop. All proceeds raised during the fundraiser will be donated to Bloomsburg’s local Women’s Center. The fundraiser was successful, raising just over $100.
The Women’s Center Inc. of Columbia/Montour County has provided service to the community for thirty-seven years. It not only provides support groups and counseling, but offers one of their most important services: a shelter for domestically abused, and sexually assaulted women and their children. Presently, the Women’s Center is in need of 44 new mattresses and bed frames for their downtown shelter. The shelter provides women and their children a safe environment to reside in during their times of need.
Interested in helping to provide new mattresses for the Women’s Center shelter? Then join forces with the Safe and Sound Slumber Fund. What is the Safe and Sound Slumber Fund? It is a development campaign launched by the upper level public relations class, PR: Cases and Problems, instructed by Dr. Richard Ganahl. Every semester, this class chooses a local organization that is in need and raises funds for the organization throughout the duration of the semester in hopes to reach a specific monetary goal. There have been six development campaigns preceding the Safe and Sound Slumber Fund, and the PR: Cases and Problems class has raised more than $12,000 in total. This year, the chosen organization is, you guessed it, The Women’s Center.
