BU Organization Spotlight: University Democrats
It’s no secret that Bloomsburg University has a lot of clubs, organizations, and activities to offer. Unfortunately, there’s so many that not everyone knows about all of them. So, here’s a little information on a club for those interested in politics, which seems to be a lot more people now with the current political climate.
The University Democrats are an organization for student democrats or anyone who is interested in learning more about the Democratic Party. They work closely with the local democratic organization, The Columbia County Democratic Committee (CCDC), which is headquartered at 10 E. Main St., right down the street from BU. Often, local candidates come to their meetings to discuss their platform.
The University Democrats participate in campus activities like the Homecoming Parade and are often invited to events held by the CCDC. They have formed a great partnership with them. They also worked closely with a Hillary Clinton campaign campus organizer, Kerry Cahoon throughout the election. They planned voter registration tables, information tables, and “Get out the Vote” events. Many of the organization members were even fellows for the Hillary Clinton campaign. They plan to be politically active this semester and many members may attend the March for Science in Washington D.C.
Their organization meets Thursday nights at 8:00 p.m., typically in KUB 226. Anyone is welcome. Those who are interested can join the Bloomsburg University Democrats Facebook group for events, announcements, etc. and join their HuskySync portal.
