BU Faculty Host Concert Downtown
Bloomsburg University Faculty, Tracey Schmidt-Jaynes and Matthew Slotkin, will perform a concert on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the Moose Exchange in downtown Bloomsburg. The Center for Visual and Performing Arts of Bloomsburg University is sponsoring this first ever event. The concert is free and open to the public.
Both musicians will perform pieces inspired from popular and dance music from Spain and the Americas along with reimagined Appalachian folk music and tangos. Schmidt-Jaynes will be featured on flute and Slotkin on guitar.
Schmidt-Jaynes, assistant professor for the department of music, theater and dance at BU has studied and played music throughout most of the United States, including a solo performance at the National Flute Convention in Chicago. In addition to being a member of the MidSouth Flute Society’s advisory board and chair of the organization’s young artist competition, she also is a piccoloist for the Williamsport symphony.
Slotkin, instructor and director of the guitar program at BU has performed in a variety of settings, including solo performances, chamber music, and as a soloist with an orchestra. Playing worldwide, with his most recent tours in Australia, Greece, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, he also gives numerous master classes and worked with several prominent chamber ensembles. The American Record Guide applauded him for his “musical sensitivity and technical control” on his album, “Twentieth Century Music for Guitar.”
