The past weekend was an exciting one for the ice hockey team here at Bloomsburg University. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday all marked important games on the Huskies’ schedule as they approach the Greater Northeastern Collegiate Hockey Conference (GNCHC) Playoffs. All three days were successful as the team took down each of their opponents and claimed the number four seed in their league.
Friday night saw the Huskies take on Lafayette University in Lehigh Valley. It was a spirited affair but the Huskies routed their opponent by a score of 8-2. With that win, Bloomsburg clinched a spot in the GNCHC playoffs. However, the weekend was not over.
Saturday afternoon could have been a home game for the Huskies even though they were technically the away team. The game was played at the Sunbury Ice Rink, about a half an hour from Bloomsburg, against Susquehanna University. Many of the team’s friends and parents came to support the Huskies that day. They were not disappointed as the Huskies won once again, this time by a score of 7-2. Two out of three opponents were defeated but one game still remained the next day.
Early Sunday morning at around 8 a.m. a coach bus carrying the team departed from the hospital lot. The destination was Grundy Recreation Center and the final opponent of the weekend for Bloomsburg was La Salle University. Parents and fans who attended the game were again treated to another victory as the Huskies completed the weekend sweep by beating La Salle 10-6. The weekend was a complete success for the BU Huskies.
After the past weekend, the Huskies capped off their regular season in a winning fashion. The playoffs are now on the horizon. Bloomsburg will have their usual practice slots before taking on LIU-CW Post on Friday, Feb. 19 at 8:45 p.m. at Grundy Recreation Center. Admission to the game is $5 but if you have your student ID there is no cost. If the Huskies win that night they will play Saturday and Sunday in the semi-finals and finals. Opponents and game times for Saturday and Sunday are to be determined. Click here for the comprehensive schedule of the GNCHC Playoffs.
