On Feb. 9, the Baltimore Orioles baseball club announced that Chris Martrich will be the team’s new Public Relations Coordinator. As the Orioles open the 2015 season, Martrich will begin his third season with the team. A new year will bring a new challenge as he will handle all of the Orioles’ public relations efforts.

chris martrich“I was extremely thrilled that the Orioles felt I was ready to begin a new role,” said Martrich. “My career has allowed me to experience many different responsibilities and I believe that my past endeavors, along with the tutelage I received along the way, prepared me for my current position.”

Martrich is a native of Lehigh Township, Pa. He attended Bloomsburg University, where he graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications. Along with his major, Martrich also obtained a concentration in Public Relations. His experience with the Orioles began when he was still a student.

In 2011, Martrich became a public relations intern with the Orioles. Since then, he slowly climbed his way up the ladder. By 2014, Martrich became a Public Relations Assistant for the team. Before this announcement was made, he has obtained a lot of public relations experience within the organization.

“I transitioned from an intern, to a Public Relations Assistant, and now into my current role as Coordinator, Public Relations with the club, and each step has allowed me to grow and learn under an amazing group of personnel, and has also created lasting experiences,” Martrich added.

During his time away from the Orioles, Martrich took advantage of other opportunibaltimore orioles logoties at the Minor League level. In 2013, he worked as a Communications Assistant with the Round Rock Express. The Round Rock club is the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. Martrich’s knowledge and experience was displayed in other sports as well.

Outside of baseball, Martrich had an emphasis on basketball. He served as the Director of Public Relations for the Springfield Armor, the NBA Developmental League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets. From 2012-13, he worked as a Media Relations Assistant at Lehigh University. At Lehigh, Martrich was a direct media contact for eight Division-I athletic programs.

Being employed within a professional sports organization requires a lot of work. With a new position in his lap, Martrich understands that he will have to take on a lot of responsibilities. These tasks include creating daily press notes, drafting press releases, arranging interviews for the players and staff, and handling media credentials. He will also coordinate press conferences, media calls, and press box operations.

In any profession, every individual begins their journey at the bottom. As they continue working their way up the ranks, they take on more responsibilities. When they are promoted to a top position, they receive a chance to showcase their skills. Chris Martrich has the skills to become a great Public Relations Coordinator. As soon as the first pitch of the 2015 season makes its way over home plate, Martrich will begin pursuing his tasks with flying colors.
